RWC Final 2011 - Initial thoughts

Many congratulations to the All Blacks - much deserved winners over the course of the tournament but boy did you ride your luck today.

In a cracking match only heroic defence and some debatable decisions kept les Bleus at bay today. Against all expectations I thought the French were just excellent and were unlucky not to get a result - but I guess they used up all their luck in the semi-final.

And it would have been nice for Messrs Henry and McCaw to have acknowledged the French effort during the post-match TV love-in.

Just saying...

Hear hear! The French were awesome and really gave the ABs a tough fight - is it me or does anyone else think it's particularly ironic that the last play of the game was a penalty awarded against Harinordiquy for joining the ruck at the side when NZ and particularly their cheating captain had been doing it unpenalised repeatedly all blooming match!!!

**allegations Richie McCaw was eye-gouged - why New Zealand and French players didn't embrace at the end of the game, and why there was little or no mention about the French team in the speeches after the final.

Richie McCaw It is fitting that he was New Zealand’s best player in the final, because each of the seven captains to have lifted the World Cup had been an outstanding player and an outstanding leader. Just look down the list: David Kirk, Nick Farr-Jones, Francois Pienaar, John Eales, Martin Johnson, John Smit and now McCaw.

McCaw wasn’t even fully fit in this tournament, because of a foot injury, but he turned it on in the semi-final to outperform Australia’s David Pocock. And then there was that immense effort to get his team over the line on Sunday. These were the best two matches I have seen McCaw play for a long time, and to lift your game for the biggest occasions is a sign of real class." guess he doesn't think McCaw is a cheating captain!!!
